Capella Commencement 2025

So, not many sea kayaks come up for sale round here, but right now there’s a P&H Capella 160 in the kevlar composite layup. Built in 2007 and looks to be in great condition. I currently only have 1 kayak (I know, WTF 🙂 ), which is my slightly beaten up CD Prana. They’re asking $750. I’m wondering if this would be an interesting second boat, or would it be too similar to my Prana (and ...

The 167 is an improvement, and brings this mid-sized Capella in line with the rest of the boats in the family, but should you come across a used 169, it is definitely worth a test paddle.

Can anyone fill me in on the main differences between the older P&H Capella RMs and the new ones? There are several older ones (used) for sale in area and they appear very similar to the current models except they only have 2 hatches/bulkheads rather than 3. Are the hatch covers square or round?

Capella 173 I wouldn’t buy without trying…been there done that…looking for direct feedback from users. I sat in a 173 in a showroom a couple of years ago…the memory sticks since it was a comfortable fit. I agree that most all boat reviews are positive…some seem genuine, some are dazzled by their pretty purchase. I’m just looking to narrow the field with first hand information from ...

I happened to peruse the P&H website today and noted there is no mention of the Corelite (polyethylene)160 and 166 models. The four composite Capellas are described, but not the 160 and 166. I wonder if these popular kayaks have been discontinued.

After some discussion on these forums about 6 weeks ago, I bought a new RM Capella 166 as the next step up from my first kayak, an Old Town Cayuga 146. As everyone suggested, my initial concerns about it’s initial stability quickly became a non-issue. In fact, I can even do a reliable cowboy re-entry… which is a good thing, because my legs from knee to bottom of foot are longer than the ...
