Update: mealworms can 100% survive in quail poop/bedding mix. I tried wire mesh grid brooder. mealworms at bottom added once layer of poop was covered and peatmoss & shredded cardboard added. I found mealworms incased in pure moist poop pies perfectly fat and alive. Most seemed to be located in the fringes where bedding met poop.

You can feed your new birds dried mealworms, just be sure not to over do it. I personally, would also put a little dish of sand in their brooder as they may need it to help digest the treats.
