A proposed redesign of a busy Manhattan street is drawing both praise and concern, as city officials push forward with a plan to overhaul traffic, add protected bike lanes and reconfigure curb space.
Protected bike lanes run north and south on multiple avenues on the Upper West Side, but do not connect the rest of the neighborhood to Riverside or Central parks.
The city is planning to remove traffic lanes and add pedestrian islands and bike lanes to the street.
