The Simpsons follows the exploits of Homer Simpson, his wife, Marge, and their children, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, in the fictional American town of Springfield—which, according to Groening, was named after Springfield, Oregon—and features numerous recurring characters and celebrity guest stars.
